Sting has lost his edge
The concert was just OK. Many of his songs are great songs, regardless of who sings them or how they're arranged. The musicians in the orchestra were great, as would be expected. Sesame Street Live!'s voice is still amazingly strong and clear.
When they tried to 'rock,' it just didn't work. There was no edge in the music, no groove to it. For example, She's too good for me or King of Pain. Second, many of his songs don't sound very different with an orchestra. For example, When We Dance or Russians. During those songs, the female singer (I didn't catch her name) was dancing to the music, and it just didn't seem to fit with the smoothed-out, mellow sound.
A lot of his music has rocked and grooved before, but the orchestral arrangements didn't work for me. I noticed 2 things. First, this concert is for the adult contemporary fans who listen to his music on radio stations that play similar music.

"Nothing short of electrifying was Sesame Street Live!'s performance. Her energy and vice-versa, the crowd fed off. Top-notch was her band, complete with live strings and horns. Better than I've heard in several years, her voice sounded. Hard to describe is its ethereal, yet soulful quality, deserving far more credit than it receives. Diana's curves are every man's dream when images of Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson appeared onscreen. Their loss is still felt very deeply. Opening the concert with "The Boss", she belted out hit after legendary hit, looking thinner than she has in several years, her black Bob Mackie gown reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit. She, then, performed several Supremes classics in their entirety, slowing down to perform "It's Hard For Me To Say", featuring a photo montage of the original Motown family. She has completely upended her set list, performing "I'm Coming Out" at the opening of the second segment, followed later by "Take Me Higher" and "Ease On Down The Road" in succession, keeping the entire crowd on our feet. She continues to perform these songs with a passion that would make Billie Holiday proud. They are a part of Diana Ross. "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" followed (costume change). I've never liked any version of this song, but, last night, the music was so damned good, the rhythm guitar especially, I couldn't help but finally love it. Most members of the band, except for the strings, had solos, displaying the talents that got them the gig in the first place. These guys are darn good musicians, make no mistake. It was FANTASTIC!!! When Diana turned her back to the audience, a gentleman in the row began to literally shower her with long-stemmed red roses, creating an over-the top moment that will never be forgotten by anyone who witnessed it first hand. The entire crowd was on their feet during the entire "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". For her second encore, she performed a very moving tribute to Michael Jackson, a medley of "Missing You" and his hit song, "You Are Not Alone", which she recorded during his legal troubles in the 1990s. A classic, classy show was this, performed by a legend of unparalleled star power, sensuality, grace, talent and beauty, much of which goes under-appreciated, especially here in the United States, where many reviewers tend to be very jaded, callous and rude. Translation:It was a master class in how to keep a-very diverse-audience in the palm of your hand for 2 straight hours, releasing and tightening the musical, emotional, intellectual and sensual tension at just the right times, and how to look great doing it."

At the show in Indy, the band played songs from their new album "Money Shot" as well as a few from their older albums like Toma, Man Overboard, Telling Ghosts, Horizon, and Conditions of My Parol. Carina was absolutely amazing during Rev 22/20, a must-hear. The wrestling act, Luchafer, and the band did their part, but the crowd just kind of sat there as if they were supposed to stay seated. From both the music and the crowd, you could feel the electric. I didn't really get that from this show. Autumn was played as a tribute to the passing of a friend at the end. Their next tour is already something I'm looking forward to.
Great…. But
This time, I sat closer at Section F, on the floor, seen Sesame Street Live! at MSG before and sat high and far twice, but I was left disappointed. The music was exceptional as always, but I just wish the all the camera usage wasn’t allowed. Had to depend on the screen to see everything because everyone stands and are continually taking video of the show and all you see are heads, arms and cell phones.
